String Trios (16/11/2024)

Join us for an evening of chamber music that traces the evolution of the string trio across three distinct periods, performed by Elina Buksha on violin, Monika Mlynarczyk on viola, and Kacper Nowak on cello. This concert offers a rare opportunity to experience how the string trio has been employed by composers over the centuries, from the Baroque elegance of Purcell to the groundbreaking modernism of Penderecki.

Three Fantasias by Henry Purcell, composed in the late 17th century and originally written for viols, highlight Purcell's mastery of counterpoint, blending intricate polyphony with rich harmonic textures. They offer a fascinating glimpse into the transition from Renaissance to Baroque music.

Beethoven's String Trio in C minor, Op. 9 No. 3, composed in 1797, is renowned for its dramatic intensity and structural complexity, showcasing Beethoven's early experimentation with form and expression.

Krzysztof Penderecki's String Trio, composed in 1990, is a modernist work that explores the full range of sonorities and techniques available to string instruments, demonstrating Penderecki's innovative approach to composition.
